Commissioning Jewellery photography
Of late, we have been asked many times why people should use a professional service for photography. So listed here are a few questions that need to be asked of your photographer. Andrew has earned an Associate award from the British Institute of professional photography and Anita has a Licentiate award for the jewellery work, this gives you as the client a confidence that the imaging we prepare will exceed your expectations. The market is awash with cheap alternatives, we know, we tend to reshoot for these clients that have mistakenly believed that a professional shot of a £1000 ring can be had for the price of a cup of coffee...you get what you pay for. Or investment in our business runs into the hundreds of thousands. We arent alone, all professionals in this industry have the same commitment .
Your studio is in Glasgow, we are in London....Paris...Dublin how does that work? We shoot remotely for clients all over the world, they ship us stock, we ship it on after shooting after agreeing detailed briefs. If you wish to attend a shoot we are only an 1hrs flights from anywhere in the UK, many of our high value clients do this a couple of times a year..and while here partake of some of Glasgow's fine hospitality.
Are your premisies secure, alarmed and who are your Insurers? Studio is Dualcom alarmed and monitored and provided with 24hr cctv. Insurance with T.H.March, the industry specialist. All stock held in approved secured safes
Who are your recent clients DMJ, Mancini, Stephen Webster, ROX, NGC Glasgow,
What equipment do you use? Phase one digital backs, Schneider and Rodenstock lenses, calibrated Eizo and LaCie monitors on Mac Pro workstations. For the highest quality jewellery imaging anything less, just isnt good enough. We do have a highend DSLR, but its consigned to stock taking duty. Thats maybe a little harsh. Its a usefull tool, however doesnt reach our quality standard for shooting product.
Can I come see your studio, attend the shoot? Sure, but you also can ship us stock too if you wish. Many, many clients do this from all over the UK and Europe. It can be cheaper for you if you are clear on your needs, we proof online on a dedicated website for each client.
How does your pricing work, I've seen 100 shots for £10ea on the internet, can you match this? No, Jewellery pricing is dependant on a huge number of factors; the number of pieces, the layout and style, whether models are needed, location or studio shooting. We use the best digital backs in the world, these give you the client the best imaging possible, at a price that reflects the effort that goes into creating these images, and maintaining the equipment and the business. Our clients can give testatment to the benefits that great photography brings to their businesses. What is clear is that poor photography kills it, this is all the more relevant now with the huge purchasing power of the internet.
Once weve spoken, and we understand your needs, we will give you a fixed price qoute.
Can I reuse the shots you sell me in other media? Generally yes, we have a set a terms and conditions that we are happy to send out with any serious enquiry.
Can you design and print catalogs? Yes, we work with some amazing designers that can work the creative layouts and will be able to work with us both to provide you with anything from a simple flyer to a world class diamond catalog, contact us and we can have them forward some samples if you wish.
Can you do me 100 shots for the weekend? eh no...., but we will bend over backwards to support your deadlines, typically a few weeks lead in, and sometimes more in busy periods. If you phone us asking to shoot a gorgeous piece for some late ad space youve been offered, then there is always caffiene! and we will endeavour to get it sorted.
The most important thing of all is the image, we work with you to create a vision of what your product can be. We can use ideas you have, and your understanding of your market, your catalog or web designers thoughts. We distill these, combine them with our own and make the image a reality. Our only goal is to give you imagery that presents your work in its best light.
We hope this helps, anything else, give us a call or drop us an email
